Anthony & Sylvan Pools- Philadelphia
Community Activities
We at Anthony & Sylvan Pools are grateful for the
support we have received from our Philadelphia customers
and associates. One of the ways we show our appreciation
is by honoring our obligations to society, by being
a contributing member, both economically and socially,
to the Philadelphia communities in which we do business.
The hope is that society will be better, in part, due
to our philanthropy and community leadership. We
believe in supporting our local communities by
being a good neighbor...and investing in our own backyard.
From little leagues to public works projects, Anthony
& Sylvan Pools is giving back and working to make
a difference.
Anthony
& Sylvan Pools is proud to support local Philadelphia
organizations such as The United Way and American Red
Cross relief efforts to rebuild communities when disasters
strike. Companywide, our employees
annually contribute over $50,000 to United Way
chapters through our companywide employee pledge drives
and various fundraising events. These contributions
help fund programs in health and human services agencies.
In addition, our swimming pool
employees donate their time by participating
in Days of Caring to help United Way agencies with much-needed
projects such as painting or planting gardens, preparing
and serving meals, and organizing events for seniors
or children, etc. Participation not only showcases our
volunteer spirit and commitment to making a difference
in local communities, but also fosters our employees’
team spirit and morale while having fun.
The Philadelphia swimming pool
division is proud to contribute to various local community
organizations that our employees are passionate
about supporting. Some of these organizations include:
Collections for Troops in Iraq
To help Marines stationed in Iraq, Joanie Springer coordinated a two-week drive in August to collect some of the day-to-day supplies they need. Generous donors supplied all sorts of goodies - snacks, candy, crackers, cookies, drink mixes, cards, batteries, baby wipes, deodorant, toothpaste, dental supplies, chapstick, lotions, shaving cream, magazines, and more - a total of 16 boxes weighing 233 pounds. This is the fourth shipment of supplies sent this year.
United Way
The Philadelphia division hosts various fun fundraising events throughout the year to encourage employees and vendors to contribute to United Way -- including Food Fests with bake-offs and eating contests and poker tournaments. As a matter of note, in 12 minutes, one can eat 57 wings or 12 hotdogs with buns!
This summer, Joanie Springer, Administrator, coordinated two events. Thirty-two employees participated in the second annual Biggest Loser Weight Loss Challenge hoping to drop pounds during a 12-week period. For their health conscious efforts, Anthony & Sylvan contributed over $1,000 to the local United Way Chapter on behalf of these employees.
Joanie also coordinated a silent auction. Employees donated items such as a home-made quilt, jewelry, pictures and frames, a small stereo system, lamps and other knick knacks. Bids on these items raised more funds for United Way, and the items that were not bid on were then donated to the Literacy Fund for Buck County.
In addition, employees donated their time in September to help a United Way agency for a Day of Caring at the Bucks County Safe House for Abused Women. Employees scrubbed the floors, walls and woodwork, spackled and sanded, painted, hung wallpaper border, and installed Pergo flooring.
Assumption BVM Basketball League & Tournament
Anthony & Sylvan sponsored two teams in the Assumption Blessed Mary Virgin Community Summer Basketball League in West Grove, Chester County, PA. The summer league is open to 4th through 12th grades. Children and young adults from West Grove, Kennett Square, Avondale, Lincoln University, Jennersville, Landenberg, Cochranville, and Oxford, PA participate in the league. Anthony & Sylvan has sponsored two teams for the last 10 years.
In addition, Anthony & Sylvan was a proud sponsor of the 2007 Gabe Bolla Memorial Basketball Tournament held annually at the Assumption BVM Parish Center. Gabe Bolla was born with a congenital heart ailment. He attended Assumption BMV grade school until he passed away when he was in the 6th grade. He loved all sports, particularly basketball, and touched many of the folks in his community during his brief life. The basketball tournament has been held annually for the past 21 years. All profits go to charitable causes in the WEst Grove area in Gabe's name.
Central Bucks West Girls Volleyball Team
Anthony & Sylvan helps sponsor the Girls Volleyball Team at Central Bucks High School West in Doylestown, Bucks County, PA, which is the oldest of the three high schools in the Central Bucks County School District. Sponsorship went toward the purchase of uniforms and equipment for the girls volleyball team.
Upper Providence Little League
Anthony & Sylvan Pools is a proud sponsor of the
Upper Providence Little League (UPLL), located in Oaks, Montgomery County, PA. UPLL is a fully chartered Little League organization, which has been in existence since the mid 1960's. Over 600 children from ages 5 to 18 participate in the league each year in the areas of Upper Providence Township, Phoenixville, Royersford, Spring City, and Audubon. In addition, UPLL has a challenger division for children with special needs. The goal of the UPLL is to teach children to play to the best of their ability, have fun and learn to be part of a team.
Anthony & Sylvan's sponsorship helps to purchase uniforms and equipment for the league.
GCI Basic Training Lacrosse Tournament
Construction Manager Chris Donnelley volunteers his time on behalf of Anthony & Sylvan to run the fields for the GCI Basic Training Lacrosse Tournament. The Tournament is comprised of a cross-section of 16 high school Lacrosse teams from public, private and Catholic schools from throughout the Delaware Valley, PA area. Teams compete in a seven-week tournament from September through October each year.
Now in its third year, the Tournament was founded by Chris' brother, Lieutenant Colonel Donnelley, who is currently serving in Iraq and following the Tournament's results via their website.
Holiday Drive for Veterans
The Philadelphia Division collected non-perishable food items, clothing and cash donations for The Homestead House for veterans in Frenchtown, NJ. We were able to buy basic necessities for the 20 men living in the home, a Thanksgiving turkey, Christmas hams and a gift card for additional groceries. Thanks to Jim Biddle and Joanie Springer for organizing the drive and to all employees who participated so others could have an enjoyable holiday season this year.
Anthony & Sylvan Receives Corporate Volunteer of the Year Award
On May 1, 2008, A Woman's Place presented members of Anthony & Sylvan's Philadelphia Division with a Corporate Volunteer of the Year Award. A Women's Place is located in Bucks County, PA, and provides comprehensive free, confidential service, support, education, outreach and advocacy to victims of domestic abuse and violence. The shelter is a United Way agency.
Anthony & Sylvan employees spent a Day of Caring in the agency's Doylestown, PA shelter cleaning, painting, and installing a new floor in the living room area. In addition, Anthony & Sylvan presented A Woman's Place with a check for $1,400 raised from their silent auction and weight loss challenge.
