Design a Pool with Handicap Accessibility - Anthony & Sylvan Pool

Affording a Pool is Easier Than You Think!

Designing a Pool with Handicap Accessibility

A backyard pool is something that everyone should be able to enjoy, but what do you do if not everyone can get in and out safely? As part of Anthony & Sylvan’s pool design services, we offer custom elements to ensure that your pool stays the highlight of the summer.

Whether you’re injured, elderly, or a person with a physical disability, here are a few options to help you design a pool that is both beautiful and handicap-accessible.

Lifts

Lifts are swings or chairs attached to a mechanical or hydraulic arm that allows people to be placed gently in the water. These are a great solution if you wish to modify an existing pool without doing a complete renovation. They can be bolted down or slipped into a metal sleeve in the pool deck. For less permanent pool access, there are portable lifts available. Pricing for lifts vary depending on the type of lift you’re looking for, but there are lifts available for almost every price range.

Ramps

Ramps are perfect for people in wheelchairs who are looking to enjoy their swimming pools. Depending on your personal taste and design preferences, ramps can be built for functionality, appearance, or both. Anthony & Sylvan can integrate the ramp into the pool’s design and yard’s landscaping and can add safety features like handrails. Ramps require a very specific rate of incline (%) to be deemed safe enough to meet handicap accessibility standards. Anthony & Sylvan’s trained professionals have the experience to handle the needs of the user.

Simply pair it with an aquatic pool wheelchair and it makes it easy for everyone to get in and out of the pool freely and safely.

Beach Access

Beach access or walk-in pools are the least assistive of the handicap-accessible pool options. They work well for seniors and people who don’t need full guidance getting into the pool, rather, they create a gentle alternative to ladders and stairs. This slowly sloping option gives your pool a natural look, as if it were a lake or an ocean. Paired with natural stone accents and landscaping, this entrance option can really enhance the look of your backyard. Exercise caution when considering this option because slope requirements surrender much of the shallow end wadding area to this gradual entry method. You’re Anthony & Sylvan designer can help.
